Abrams' "Lost" had an almost entirely different cast
Tale
The survivors of a plane crash are forced to work together to survive on a seemingly deserted tropical island… J.J. See which A-listers lost one of the most popular TV shows of all time. The character of Sawyer was originally intended to be an older, slick urban con man from Buffalo, NY. However, when Josh Holloway forgot a line at his audition and subsequently kicked a chair in frustration and cursed loudly, the writers liked the playfulness he brought to the character of Sawyer and decided to write Sawyer as more of a Southern, darker drifter. Jin and Sun are married and share the last name “Kwon”, which becomes an important plot point in the final season.
Adapted to Lost: The Journey (2005)
However, when Koreans marry, the wife never takes her husband’s surname. In fact, in Korea it’s not even allowed to marry someone with the same last name, except in rare circumstances… [repeated line] Desmond Hume: See you in another life bro.. Weird opening credits designed by J.J. Abrams on his laptop in black and white as a tribute to the Twilight Zone..
It’s a legitimate concern, but in the case of "Lost," completely unjustified
At the first blush, "Lost" It seems like an impossible concept: lots of people stranded on a mysterious island. How many story lines can you POSSIBLY take from this before the idea runs dry? "Lost," unlike many shows today, where the plot drives the characters, it’s actually the opposite: the characters drive the plot. This is not "CSI" or "Law and Order," where each week is a variation on the same theme. On the "Lost" you have a group of fascinatingly different, tragically flawed characters who must somehow learn to survive together while trying to keep their secrets hidden.
Yes, mysterious events occur
That is the way to disaster. After living together for a long time, the characters find it impossible to keep their past a secret. Yes, there is a monster on the island. Yes, a sense of dread often hangs in the air. But to me, the external problems presented by the island itself are NOTHING compared to the INTERNAL problems the characters have to face, both with themselves and with each other.
Therein lies the REAL drama
And it’s fascinating to watch.
